What they're saying about "In Progression"

Hi Dick . . . Thanks for the new Cd, and for the mention of the Fireballs in the liner notes. I like the way you labeled "traditional guitar" and "modern guitar" for the difference in application and performance. Some real hot stuff there with your family! Congrats on a fine product.

looks good & sounds good, and I'm enjoying.

I'm writing to tell you that I got "In Progression," to thank you for sharing this wonderful CD with me, and, most of all, to tell you how much I like it. Wow! I'm just floored by this music. It is so good. You have really out-done yourself on this one! It's incredibly interesting and each song is a new adventure.

Dick, got your CD fine and I was impressed. I think it was neat the way you put it together.

I loved the cd! Probably 'dating' myself, but the ones that initially caught my ear was 'Awakening' and 'Torreon.' To me these are a real work of art. Great guitar work on all of the tracks as well.

This is a great piece of work! It's great to hear this awesome, driving guitar with that classic Knights' sound mixed right in. Right off the bat, my favorite tracks are "In Progression," "Ragtime Surf," "Torreon," "Awakening," "Shelbi," and "Simple Wonders." I find my tastes for songs differ over time, I guess as I listen more and get a better feel for the song. Anyway, it's a very cool CD . . . the whole package: the color, artwork, liner notes, etc. I'm sure I'll start the show with one of the tracks this Thursday. Thanks for sending it out my way! Do I foresee a west-coast promo tour in the near future? Or do I have to come out to New Mexico and rent an RV to get a live show??? :) Good work!

Dick,

Thanks for the promo copy of your new CD. It's a very good and very ambitious work.

I'll be glad to carry it in the mail order. Go ahead and send five copies along with an invoice.

The Knights may very well be my favorite surf-rock, instrumental outfit, but I never expected this from them. I was happily surprised by this album. Look at this: Take modern progressive-rock guitar, traditional surf rock guitar, stir well, and you get a tasty treat that gives you the best of both worlds. I've heard a lot of independent artists attempting to coin a new sound and style by combining different types of music genres. Most pretty much suck. The Knights seem to have actually come onto something here though. I never would have thought that these two very different styles would have ever worked together so well. I'm amazed by it."

Phil Dirt's takes on two of the tracks:

"Surfin' The Badlands" - Jason Stewart's modern work here is very appealing, with excellent rhythm chops and thick fluid lines."Surfin' The Badlands" portrays a dangerous forbidding place with a romantic appeal riding just atop a meat grinder bandito waiting to kill you for your possessions. The slide guitar adds a greater sense of the desert. This is a very cool track. (Dangerous Surf Instrumental Stereo)

"Pipeline" - "Pipeline" succumbs once again to a rebirth. The contrast between the two guitarists' styles and sounds creates a post Johnny Thunders surf revival sound that compliments this most flexible of all surf instros. Exceptional! (Iron Pipe Surf Instrumental Stereo)

Very cool. Dig it. Favorite songs are "In Progression," "Yellow Jacket," "Surfin the Badlands," "Pipeline," and "Aqua Loca." I will play those songs this week on my radio show.

Thanks a lot,

I put on the loops: "In Progression," "Awakening," "Surfin' the Badlands," "Pipeline" and "Aqua Loca" for now for both stations. Devlar I has 491 tracks (22.30hrs.) and Devlar II has 392 tracks (19hrs.) at this time. We are really enjoying your fine music here!! Thanks for sharing it with us, and the world. Dick,

Thank you so much for sending me your latest CD. I enjoyed listening to it and will recommend it to my students. It was great to speak with Ritch and Kirk Ramsing, a real blast from the past! I look forward to getting together with the Stewart clan and catching up with the latest. Thanks again for the great CD and the kind words.

I enjoyed the CD a lot! The mix of the surf and the metal guitars was made in a very good way. It may horrify some trad fans, but I think that it can do a better job to surf music as it can show other audiences (like the metal fans) how cool surf music is.

One funny thing - I was going to play some metal versions of surf classics in this show, and when I got the CD I couldn't believe how this would fit. I'll play Anthrax with "Pipeline," Gary Huey doing

"Wipe Out" and The Knights's "Yellow Jacket." (I listened to the song and I still have it in my ears!!)

Dick,

Let me tell you something. THE KNIGHTS' version of "Pipeline" would make co-writer BOB SPICKARD of THE CHANTAYS proud and AGENT ORANGE get up and leave the room! And if you thought you could turn off the reverb in THE VENTURES' song "Yellow Jacket," THE KNIGHTS don't give you a choice!
